Abstract

Euplocania xavieri n. sp. Male (Figs 4753) Diagnosis. Belonging in species group amabilis, of Garca Aldrete et al. (2013) and subgroup tocantina, of Vinasco-Mondragn et al. (2018). Differing from E. tocantina Vinasco-Mondragn, Gonzlez & Garca Aldrete by having the central sclerite of the hypandrium almost U-shaped, with the postero-lateral processes slightly curved inwards and not parallel as in E. tocantina. The two species also differ in details of the phallosome endophallic sclerites, particularly the mesal sclerite, that has a median concavity anteriorly, a small concavity on each side, and two stout posterior processes, blunt ended and slightly curved inwards (compare Figs 51 and 52 in this paper with Figs 59 and 60 in Vinasco-Mondragn et al. 2018). ......continued on the next page Color (in 80% ethanol). Compound eyes black, ocelli hyaline, with ochre centripetal crescents, head pattern (Fig. 47). Scape and pedicel dark brown; f1-f3 brown with apex white. Legs with coxae, trochanters and femora pale yellow, tibiae yellow with apices dark brown; tarsomere 1 yellow, with end dark brown, tarsomeres 23 dark brown. Forewings veins brown, with a dark brown spot at wing margin, a marginal pigmented band from R 2+3 to A 2 with a hyaline area, boomerang shaped, on each side of vein ends at wing margin; Rs and crossvein Rs-M dark brown. Pterostigma dark brown (Fig. 48). Hindwings (Fig. 49), almost hyaline, with area limited by CuP pale brown, veins brown, each with a brown spot distally at wing margin. Morphology. As in diagnosis, plus the following: Head vertex emarginate; compound eyes without interommatidial setae (Fig. 47). Outer cusp of lacinial tip broad, with seven denticles (Fig. 50). Forewing pterostigma angulate, projected in the middle towards Rs, areola postica tall, wide, with round apex, slanted posteriorly, M with four primary branches (Fig. 48). Hindwing Rs and R 2+3 straight, R 4+5 almost straight, M sinuous (Fig. 49). Hypandrium of three sclerites, a large central sclerite U-shaped, side sclerites almost triangular, setae as illustrated (Fig. 51). Phallosome (Fig. 52) with side struts basally fused, V-shaped, narrowing posteriorly, distally with a small projection curved inwards. External parameres stout, U-shaped, with a field of pores in the middle. Mesal sclerite wide, strongly sclerotized. Two pairs of endophallic sclerites, an antero-mesal pair small, strongly sclerotized, anteriorly curved outwards, widening posteriorly with blunt apex; an antero-lateral pair, slightly curved inwards, wide basally, with sides narrowing posteriorly with acuminate apex. Paraprocts (Fig. 53) almost triangular, with a dense distal setal field; sensory fields with 2728 trichobothria on basal rosettes. Epiproct (Fig. 53) broad, with one concave area on each antero-lateral corner; sides converging to triangular posterior border, with three mesal setae near anterior border, setal fields on posterior edge and one macroseta on each side. Measurements (in microns). FW: 4264, HW: 2849, F: 1178, T: 1796, t1: 703, t2: 95, t3: 143, f1: 800, f2: 732, f3: 656, Mx4: 279, IO: 470, D: 457, d: 296, PO: 0.65. Material examined. Holotype male (INPA). BRAZIL. Amazonas. Reserva ZF 2, Km 14, Torre. 0235'21"S: 6006'55"W. 318. I.2017. Malaise trap, 18m at the tower. J. A. Rafael & F. F. Xavier Filho. Paratypes: 2 males (INPA), same data as the holotype. Etymology. This species is dedicated to Francisco Felipe Xavier Filho, a biologist at the Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amaznia (INPA), Amazonas, Brazil in recognition to his efforts as insect collector in the Amazonian rainforest.
Published as part of Neto, Alberto Moreira Da Silva, Garca Aldrete, Alfonso N. & Rafael, Jos Albertino, 2019, New species of Euplocania Enderlein (Psocodea, ' Psocoptera', Ptiloneuridae) from Brazil, with a checklist of all known species of the genus, pp. 374-390 in Zootaxa 4550 (3) on pages 385-389, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4550.3.5, http://zenodo.org/record/2625503
{"references":["Garcia Aldrete, A.
