Athermic relaxation phenomena in polycrystalline copper after cooling to helium temperatures

Abstract

Long-time heat release relaxation phenomena observed in different types of solids after cooling are attributed to the inelastic relaxation of thermoelastic stresses. Under this assumption an estimate of the relaxing power for polycrystalline copper is obtained that agrees with the observed values.
