Abstract: The problem of simplifying a complex shape with simpler ones is an important research area in computer science and engineering. In this paper we investigate the effect of visibility properties of polygons when their boundaries are approximated to have simpler shapes. The presented algorithm is expected to have wide applications in simplifying 1.5D terrain which are restricted class of simple polygons.
