Abstract

The edible fruits of fig, including breba crops, are very perishable and should be stored at low temperatures (–1°C to 0°C), without delay in cooling. The main causes of produce quality losses are fungal decay, mechanical damages, and weight loss. The use of atmospheres enriched in CO2 (15%–20% CO2) can extend storage life of figs from1 to 2 weeks in air to 3–4 weeks in CA/MAP, reducing decay, respiration and ethylene production rates.
