Measurement of a Simple Defect Mode of Vibration

Inelastic scattering of cold neutrons from Ni- Pd alloys was measured using the cold-neutron facility at the BNL graphite reactor. Measurements were taken at room temperature on polycrystalline specimens of pure Pd, pure Ni, and 2 alloys of 5 and 10 at.% Ni. The existence of welldefined modes of vibration was confirmed. (L.N.N.)
