Abstract
- Pulsed magnetic field generation circuits find varied applications inclusive of biological applications [1, 2], magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) [3], transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) [4] and magneto-optical switching [5]. In this work, a low field, low frequency (< 5MHz), pulsed magnetic field generation circuit suited for unilateral nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) applications is presented. A magnetic flux density of approximately 1000G is generated using an inductive load with a FET-based switch. The inductive load resonates at a frequency of 5MHz which is the precession frequency of 1H protons in a magnetic flux of 1000G. The designed circuit can be tuned to operate at resonant frequencies of other chemical species. In this paper, the design parameters and operation of a prototype pulsed field generator will be discussed.
