Abstract

In order to study the safety stability of shallow tunnels under unsymmetrical pressure and traversing existing roads, a 3D numerical model of considering real surface elevation changes was established for a different construction scheme in a different range according to the Changshao neighborhood tunnel engineering on the Xi-kang Expressway. The construction process of traversing the S102 road was simulated in the entrances’ range. The deformation law, the stress distribution, the deformation characteristics of middle wall and lining supporting structure, and the settlement law of existing highway surface were obtained for range of the shallow covering excavation and shallow hiding excavation. The safety evaluations on the engineering construction of traversing the existing highway were made. The analyzed results had positive effects on the successful construction of the Changshao neighborhood tunnel.
