Abstract

With the development of power transmission system, the synchronous condenser with large capacity has become the optimal choice to meet the dynamic reactive power demand of the power system, and has gradually become one of the research hotspots. The rotor windings inter-turn short circuit fault is a common fault in synchronous condenser because the field winding is exposed to various mechanical and thermal stress. This paper proposes a fault diagnosis strategy to cope with the rotor windings inter-turn short circuit fault of synchronous condenser, which can be used for the online fault monitoring. This paper analyze the characteristic of the rotor field winding fault and develop a park model based on synchronous condenser’s rotor field winding inter-turn short circuit firstly. Secondly, the characteristic of the synchronous condenser is analyzed, and the relationship between the number of short-circuit turns and the field current of the rotor windings is deduced. Finally, the proposed strategy is verified by simulated results.
