Abstract

Batik industry in Indonesia is growing very rapidly. This is of course accompanied by the increasing volume of waste generated, especially liquid waste. Liquid waste generated in the process of coloring, washing, or in the finishing process, if not handled intensively will cause environmental imbalances. The purpose of this research is to provide one alternative solution to treat batik liquid waste, especially in overcoming problems about COD and TSS levels. Bed layer and electrolysis combination techniques can be used to overcome the problem of batik waste. This technique uses parameters such as bed layer variation, layers, pH, electrolysis time, and voltage. The dependent variables analyzed in this study were the percentage decrease of Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and Total Solid Solution (TSS). Based on this research, it is found that the arrangement of bed layer combination with effective electrodegradation in lowering COD and TSS in batik liquid waste is charcoal, gravel, sand, rice husk ash, coconut fiber. The treatment was continued with electrolysis and the resulting efficiency of COD and TSS decrease were 60% and 85%
