Abstract

Hypnosis-level regulation is the major goal of anesthesia infusion during surgical activities. Anesthesia involves maintaining the suitable hypnosis level and pain-free feeling by injecting several drugs in combination creating a synergistic effect. This research work focuses on the analysis of two nonlinear control techniques, i.e., sliding mode control and backstepping, to regulate depth of hypnosis of the patients during surgery. The primary motive in introducing the nonlinear approaches in anesthesia infusion systems is the limitation of linear control strategies regarding the inadequate handling of large inter-patient variability. Nonlinear approaches, exhibiting excellent properties of accuracy, provide an a variability, uncertain systems, sliding mode control, backstepping, nonlinear control.
