Abstract

We examine whether counterfactual information affects the inferences people make from disjunctions. We provide participants with problems of the following sort: Jane is in Dublin or she is in Cork. In fact, Jane is in Dublin, otherwise she would have been in Belfast. Given this information, the first assertion is: [ ] true [ ] false [ ] possibly true and possibly false
