'Highway' Toward Efficient Water Oxidation

Rational design of oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts is vital for efficient water splitting owing to the sluggish kinetics of the anodic reaction. In this issue, Wang et al. shed light on an anion-etching approach to accelerate the rapid formation of high active species on surface of the pre-catalysts during OER, yet opening up a whole new avenue to construct high-performance catalysts for electrolyers and other important industrial processes.
