Abstract
- Aluminium – silicon alloys are most frequently adopted for numerous engineering applications such as automobile, marine and aircraft manufacturing industries due to its high strength to weight ratio. Turning is considered as one of the most important machining processes for producing components of desired shape with dimensional accuracy. Manufacturing processes influences the functional performance of the components. This present article discuss about the optimization of machining parameters in turning LM 25 aluminium alloy in wet and dry environments. The parameters considered for machining are cutting speed, feed and depth of cut with the performance measures as surface roughness, material removal rate and cylindricity error. Taguchi’s L9 orthogonal array was employed for conducting the experiments. The parameters are optimized simultaneously by Grey Relational Analysis (GRA) method. The impact of the machining parameters on performance measures were compared on both wet and dry machining environments.
