The effectiveness of phototherapy for neonatal jaundice was compared in three closely matched groups of Chinese, Malay and Indian infants. Reduction in bilirubin levels was achieved in all three groups, and no significant difference was demonstrated among them. Phototherapy appears to be equally effective in reducing bilirubin levels in Chinese, Malay and Indian infants.
