Abstract: Plagiochila matanga Steph., Sp. Hepat. 6: 183. 1921, syn. nov. Holotypus: ECUADOR. Prov. Azuay: páramo del Matanga, s.d., Allioni 679 (G [G00064204]!). = Plagiochila longispina Lindenb. & Gottsche Notes. – Plagiochila longispina is a neotropical-montane species that is distinguished by more or less bluish stems, and leaves with numerous long-linear teeth all around the margins (HEINRICHS et al., 2000). Plagiochila matanga is identical to P. longispina and a synonym.
