Abstract

Congenital absence of the tibia is a rare congenital anomaly causing marked shortening of the involved extremity.A long-term case of congenital absence of the tibia is reported. A 13-year-old boy entered our hospital for correction of his ankle and foot deformity, and lower leg lengthening using the I lizarov method. His absence belonged to the Ib type according to Jones' clssification. At 1 year and 2 months he had Brown's procedure and at 3 years of age ankle arthrodesis had been performed with remarkable equinovarus. Roentgenologically we can observe that his fibula widered and lergthened compared to normal.
