Abstract

Spinal orthoses have a long history of being used for the correction and prevention of spinal deformities. The primary goals of spinal orthoses are to aid a weakened muscle group, correct a deformed body part, and maintain the stability of a fractured spine. The orthosis can protect a body part from further injury or can correct the position of a body part. The clinician’s priority should be to determine which spinal motion to control. Good clinical outcomes can be maximized through proper selection, use, and application of the orthosis. Technology has revamped the field of orthotics, with newer orthoses that are stronger and lighter.
