Abstract
- Both the N—N stretching vibration and its combination with the Fermi doublet {ν 1 , 2 ν 2 } of carbon dioxide are infrared active for a nitrogen crystal containing traces of carbon dioxide. The intensities of these normally forbidden bands can be accounted for semiquantitatively by a simple electrostatic model.
