Abstract
- Ankyloglossia is characterized by the presence of a lingual frenulum in a more anterior location than usual, a condition that can affect, to varying degrees, the tongue's movements, having as a consequence breastfeeding problems. Despite the wide variation in the prevalence of ankyloglossia, it was estimated as around 8%. That variation can be explained by the absence of a standardized instrument for its diagnosis. The objective of this work is to identify the current scientific data about the diagnosis of ankyloglossia in newborns and infants through a scoping review. The scope review will be carried out in accordance with Joanna Briggs Institute guidelines. Scientific articles describing any methodology used for the ankyloglossia's diagnosis in children up to 2 years of age (newborns and infants) will be included, without restrictions on types of studies, language or years of publication. The searches will be carried out in the Medline /PubMed, Scopus and Embase / Elsevier, Web of Science / Clarivat-analytics databases and in the LILACS / Virtual Health Library (BVS), using the following indexed terms and keywords: Ankyloglossia; lingual frenulum; Newborn; infants. This search strategy will be adapted for each database. A descriptive analysis of ankyloglossia's protocols and diagnostic tools will be performed exploring the main charactheristics.
