An Integrated Approach to the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Persons with Schizophrenia

Persons with schizophrenia can substantially improve their functional capacity, quality of life and psychopathology if they are afforded an integrated mode of treatment and rehabilitation that is characterized by (a) the five “C’s” of high quality treatment, (b) an effective treatment delivery system, and (c) phase-specific interventions. The five “C’s” delineate the quality and adequacy of the treatment and rehabilitation, the delivery system assures that the various assessments and interventions are imbedded in an outreach program that brings the treatment to the patient, as necessary, in a flexible manner, that is consistent with the phase or type of disorder.
