A New Sol−Gel Route to Lu2SiO5 (LSO) Scintillator: Powders and Thin Films

For the first time, a sol−gel route is proposed for the well-known scintillator Lu2SiO5. The sol−gel process allows the production of both powders with nanosized grains and optical quality thin films. The optical properties of Ce3+-doped materials are similar to those reported previously for LSO single crystal. This new preparation strategy is very versatile and could provide a low-cost solution for the production of high-quality X-ray intensifying screens.
