IV. Josua 1: Der Nachfolger und seine Anerkennung

This chapter presents an overview on the passages in Deuteronomy 1-3 and 31, where the passages are connected factually and linguistically with Joshua 1. It discusses the question of pre-deuteronomistic sources and secondary amendments in the Joshua 1. The Joshua 1 is considered to be a deuteronomy text. The passage is commonly excluded as a supplement to the deuteronomistic base layer of Joshua 1 and belongs to the existence of the introductory speech of God. The chapter examines the representation of the successor of Moses by Joshua. It discusses the Transjordan in the Deuteronomistic view of history and tribes of Jordan as the theme of the deuteronomistic Joshua story. Starting of the Joshua narrative has proven as a carefully composed literary unit. In compositional historical point of view, the chapter provides strong arguments for the deuteronomistic history hypothesis.
