Abstract

This work demonstrates the fabrication of Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles (NPs) on reduced graphene oxide (RGO) abbreviated as Fe 3 O 4 -RGO nanocomposite by a green and facile method. In this work, first we synthesized the small sized uniformly dispersed Fe 3 O 4 NPs by high-temperature solution phase reaction of iron (III) acetylacetonate, Fe (acac) 3 . The formation of magnetite phase (Fe 3 O 4 ) was confirmed by the X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique. The surface morphology and size of Fe 3 O 4 NPs were evaluated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Then, Fe 3 O 4 NPs were dispersed with graphene oxide (GO) under reducing condition of citric acid and L-ascorbic acid. The dispersion of Fe 3 O 4 NPs with RGO was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques, both showing the well intercalation and decoration of Fe 3 O 4 NPs with graphene sheets.
