Abstract

Concentration, time and influence of α-tocopherol on the uptake and antiperoxidative effect of lycopene were assayed using a liposome model. Liposomes prepared from egg yolk phosphatidylcholine that were incubated at 37 °C with 100 μM of lycopene as initial concentration showed a maximum percentage of uptake (21.5%) compared with 16.0% at higher concentration of 200 μM as initial concentration after 4 h of incubation. A decrease of 13% in lycopene absorption was observed in the presence of 50 μM α-tocopherol as initial concentration. Different initial concentrations of lycopene (0.6×10−2 μM, 1.2×10−2 μM, 1.8×10−2 μM) significantly (P
