Abstract

The Sixth Annual CESDI Report published in June contains important messages for all of those professionals concerned with the care of mothers and babies. The findings represent the work of a large number of individuals from different professional groups who have contributed to data collection, or confidential enquiry panels. For this report to remain on the shelf unread devalues the basic principle of the work of CESDI as an organization ‘to improve the understanding of how the risks of death in late fetal life and infancy fom 20 weeks of pregnancy to one year’. This report, therefore, should bre essential reading and should form the basis of discussion within a multidisciplinary forum to look at ways of disseminating the findings and moving practice forward in ways to improve care.
