Abstract
- The lattice stability of YBa2Cu3Ox is studied using a rigid ion model. The semiconducting compound, YBa2Cu3O6, is stable, while superconducting YBa2Cu3O7 is unstable. The vibrational eigenstates of the phonon modes which destabilize YBa2Cu3O7 have properties which may greatly enhance the electron-phonon coupling.
