Abstract: The topic of the 2017 Cambridge Ophthalmology Symposium was ‘Go with the flow: rheology, fluid flow and the eye’. This paper is based on the opening presentation that was aimed to introduce key concepts within the topic of rheology to ophthalmologists and other scientists unfamiliar with the field. Examples are drawn from applications related to the eye.
