Abstract

Theoretically, hob cutters with a straight-sided cutting edge can generate a perfect involute tooth profile. However, due to an unbalanced cutting force, there will be deviation between the actual and the theoretical tooth profile. In this paper, an involute tooth profile manufactured by a hob cutter has been developed based on the theory of even contact. The concept of a shifted cutter was used to correct the tooth profile deviation of involute spur gears.
