Abstract
- The study investigate three kinds of interfacial patterns (convex, corrugated, grid-like) were designed so as to improve the interfacial bonding strengths of hydroxyapatite (HA)/ZrO2 biomaterials. The thicknesses of prepared HA coatings were 50–250 μm. Both shear and tensile bonding strengths of the composites with different interfacial patterns were improved compared with the tiled samples because of the different contact geometry. The analysis on the fracture surfaces by SEM and XRD confirmed that the adhesive modes of HA and ZrO2 were the combination of mechanical and physical bonding. The research is beneficial to the clinical application of HA for a layered composite.
