Abstract
- Summary It has been confirmed that a rapid intravenous injection of pentagastrin inhibits Heidenhain pouch acid responses in similar fashion to other gastrin preparations. There is no evidence of diminution in the degree or duration of inhibition on repeating the rapid intravenous pentagastrin injections over a period of several hours. It is possible to achieve sustained inhibition of the pouch responses to either the continuous intravenous infusion of histamine, or to a meat meal, by a series of spaced intravenous injections of pentagastrin. The inhibition is not accompanied by observable side effects.
