Abstract

Model based POD estimates constitute a powerful tool for addressing a wide variety of issues relating to NDE reliability. These estimates can, for example not only provide insight into factors affecting detectability but also assist in determining optimum test parameters. Model based POD estimates can also play a crucial role as a vehicle for interpolating and extrapolating results obtained from experimental POD models. Such use can lead to significant cost benefits particularly in situations involving defects that are difficult and expensive to replicate in a laboratory in large numbers.
