Abstract

Culture plays a very important role in our upbringing. The mindset, psyche and the cognitive development of a child depends upon both nature and nurture. This development becomes essential when people enter in their adolescence because this period is termed as a crucial period of one’s life. Adolescents not only are influenced by their family but also they are much influenced by their society and their culture. They start considering themselves as a part of their culture and they think that it is their responsibility to carry on their culture along with them. In this age of technology, many adolescents are academically very strong because of constant focus on career formation as expected by parents and family but in this whole process they lack behind in social mannerism. This socio cognitive development is as much as essential as cognitive and emotional development. This socio cognitive development is being boost up by their surroundings. They learn by their family. What they see in their family, they behave in the same manner. Therefore, it can be said that our culture has an un-doubtable effect on child’s socio cognitive development. The present paper gives a detailed account of socio cognitive development, its importance in our life and the research carried out on this front. This paper also suggests the necessary areas to be explored the concerned area.
