Abstract

HClO4–SiO2 has been found to be a highly efficient catalyst for the synthesis of substituted tetrahydropyrimidine and bis-tertahydropyrimidine derivatives in good to excellent yields involving the reaction of dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate, amines/diamines, and formaldehyde. One-pot, atom economy, high-bond forming efficiency, environmentally benign, good yields, and mild reaction conditions are some of the salient features of this multicomponent reaction.
