Abstract

In this paper, we describe state-of-the-art low-power optoelectronic VDSL system enabling broadband access to the home over 10 km of optical fibre and up to 0.4 km of twisted pair. The cabinet/distribution point interface has a footprint of just 3 cm × 3 cm × 1 cm and consumes only ~102 mW. A DMT modulation scheme was used for system tests with full duplex downstream/upstream data rates of 62 Mb/s and 28 Mb/s respectively achieved, and up to 40 dB up/downstream channel isolation is obtained using hybrid transformers.
