Abstract

Electrochemical oxidation (ECO) of oxalate ions in aqueous solutions has been studied with the use of an MB–11T-06 electrochemical unit element. It was shown that the ECO occurs most effectively in weakly-acid media at anode current density not exceeding 160 A/m2. The presence of chloride ions in a solution being treated in neutral or weakly acid media leads to an increase in the electrochemical destruction rate of oxalate ions. Sulfate and borate ions make lower the efficiency of ECO in the whole H range under study (3–10). It is shown that performing a preliminary electrochemical oxidation of an oxalate-containing solution makes it possible to make 4 times larger the 90Sr distribution coefficient on a NaA synthetic zeolite.
