ChemInform Abstract: IR Study of the Conformational Mobility of 4-Cyano-4-n-alkoxybiphenyl

The polymorphism and conformational properties of 4-cyano-4- n -alkoxybiphenyl crystals were studied using infrared spectroscopy (experimental and theoretical analysis of normal modes), X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry. Several different solid crystalline forms were found the appearance of which depended on the thermal history of the samples. Spectral characteristics and structural peculiarities of these forms were established.
