Abstract

A Bacillus thuringiensis var. thuringiensis (Bt) Berliner formulation, designated SAN 410 and containing a beta exotoxin (1% AI), was obtained from Sandoz, Zoecon Corp. Cracked wheat at 16.0% moisture content was treated with various concentrations of the insecticide. Five replicates of 20 adult Oryzaephilus surinamensis, O. mercator, Cryptolestes ferrugineus, and Tribolium castaneum were exposed to the medium treated with 0, 500, or 1000 ppm (AI) for 2 wk at 25 ± 1°C, 70 ± 5% RH. Mortality was assessed at 1 and 2 wk. Five replicates of 20 late-stage larvae of O. surinamensis, O. mercator, and C. ferrugineus were exposed to cracked wheat treated with 0, 5, 20, 50, or 200 ppm B. thuringiensis for 2 wk at 25 ± 1°C and 70 ± 5% RH. Mortality was assessed at 1 and 2 wk.
