Abstract

Using primarily the tool of deep inelastic lepton scattering, I outline some of the major features of our understanding of the quark and gluon structure of nuclei. The natural progression is from nucleons to deuterium to heavier nuclei. Among other topics, I address the quark-parton model, x-scaling, y-scaling, quark cluster model, and the nuclear equation of state at high density and low temperature.
