Abstract

From southern Sao Francisco Craton (Brazil), the Itaguara retroeclogite with so little amphibole (~20%) and plagioclase (~1%) should not be considered a garnet amphibolite (as claimed by Cutts 2020) according to IUGS/Subcommission on the Systematics of Metamorphic Rocks. The ten main assertions of Cutts (2020) are individually replied in this Discussion manuscript. The new discovery of ~2.2 Ga E-MORB signature retroeclogite in the Itaguara Sequence (Chaves and Porcher 2020), close to ~2.1 Ga peraluminous (S-type) syn-collisional Corrego do Peixoto granite generated by partial melting of the mica-quartz schist from the Itaguara accretionary prism (Chaves et al. 2019; Chaves and Coelho 2020), correspond to one of the earliest records of subduction accretion then continental collision in the world.
