Abstract
- The determination of outcome after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) requires assessment of both patient-reported outcome measures and objective parameters that measure strength, balance, and functional performance. This chapter details the most common objective assessments used postoperatively in the standard clinic setting such as isometric muscle testing, Y-balance testing, timed walking, and chair standing testing. Reliability, validity, responsiveness, and normative data are provided. Several test batteries are also described that encompass multiple objective measurements to use for return to recreational or sports activities.
