Spectroscopic results from a high-resolution study of proton particle-hole states in 208Pb

Abstract

Using the 209Bi(d, 3He)208Pb reaction at 45 MeV we have observed nearly the total strengths of the 1 h 9 2 particles, 3 s 1 2 , 2 d 3 2 , 1 h 11 2 or 2 d 5 2 hole multiplets with an energy resolution of 12 keV. We present the spectroscopic results and discuss some implications for recent studies of stretched configurations, magnetic dipole states and the proton particle- hole interaction.
