Abstract

The title compound, C6H11N3O22+·SO42−, crystallizes with two cations and two anions in the asymmetric unit. In both diprotonated histidinium cations, the Cγ atom has a gauche-II conformation with respect to the amine N atom and it is in a trans position to the C atom. An extensive three-dimensional network of intermolecular N—H⋯O and O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds links the histidinium cations and sulfate anions, forming a crystal structure in which zigzag (Z1) head-to-tail sequences are observed for both the cations.
