Abstract
- An English hospital trust was last week fined £100 000 (€145 000; $175 000) after pleading guilty to failing to supervise two junior doctors in an orthopaedic ward where a patient died of toxic shock syndrome after a simple knee operation. Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust was also ordered to pay £10 000 towards the costs of the health and safety prosecution after the death of Sean Phillips, 31, at Southampton General Hospital in June 2000.
