Abstract

This paper presents the results of two studies investigating the incidence of “double voting” by respondents in multi‐wave mail surveys. Two separate surveys with a total sample in excess of 1300 were conducted. In both cases these were genuine studies, but dealt with innocuous topics. The results appear to indicate that the tendency for respondents to register their opinions more than once is limited. This, however, may not be the case in surveys involving topics of a somewhat controversial nature.
