Abstract

Change blindness is a phenomenon where a change to an observed scene goes unnoticed by the viewer due to the viewer's attention being focused on a task. This study will seek to prove change blindness in three different videos by having participants answer questions about videos they have watched. While watching the video, participants will be tasked to keep track of specified items within the video to limit the viewers attention in an attempt to produce the desired effect. The videos will contain differing background changes and viewing instructions will vary in three levels of difficulty, with one level being a control group with the neutral instructions to watch the video or slideshow. Participants will either watch the video in a traditional video format or a slideshow format. The goal of this study is to prove that the change blindness phenomenon occurs within the videos and also prove that change blindness also occurs within a slideshow format.
