Abstract
- In this paper, we propose an efficient motion estimation algorithm for MPEG-4 video coding in real-time application. The proposed algorithm first estimates initial motion vector using motion vector information in the previous frame. Based on the sum of absolute difference of the initial motion vector, it selects appropriate motion estimation algorithm. The proposed method shows similar performance with the full-search block matching algorithm (FSBMA), while reduces computational complexity greatly. We implemented and simulated the proposed algorithm on embedded DSP system. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm shows superior performance with smaller computational complexity compared to previous fast search motion estimation algorithms.
