Video-Electroencephalography (Video-EEG)

The appropriate indication for epilepsy monitoring unit (EMU) evaluation reflects the need of general neurologists, neurophysiologists, epileptologists, and pediatric neurologists to assume the diagnosis and management of patients with paroxystic neurological symptoms. Electroencephalography (EEG) as a tool in the management of epilepsy has been in continuous development over at least 80 years, even if difficulties with interpretation, specificity, and sensitivity existed. Long-term video-electroencephalography (Video-EEG) for elective admissions to a specialized inpatient setting, permits, by recent computer digitization of signals, longer standard recordings and monitoring, linked to a simultaneous video.
