Abstract
- Statin drugs have been widely used to treat hyperlipidemia and to reduce the risk for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Myotoxicity represents the main side effect of statin drugs. Statin drugs can cause rhabdomyolysis, immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy, and more commonly mild toxic myopathy. Here we present a case with a mild toxic myopathy induced by statin use. The diagnosis is made based on the clinical ground. There is no distinguishing muscle pathology feature for this condition. The management is to discontinue statin if the myotoxicity outweighs the benefit.
