Abstract
- Noise technology requirements are surveyed for several future aircraft powerplants. The applications considered range from growth verions of current production engines to future advanced supersonic transport applications. Although a variety of complex and challenging noise-suppression problems are identified, a sampling of several basic problems common to a variety of engine designs are discussed in more detail. Among these are: the prediction of fan noise generation and propagation in treated ducts, the use of mixer nozzles to reduce jet exhaust noise, and the prediction and absorption of combustion noise. Discussed in the paper are analytical and experimental approaches applicable to solving these problems.Copyright © 1976 by ASME
