Abstract

A long-pulse modulator for the 1-GeV proton linac planned at KEK (Japan National Laboratory for High Energy Physics) was designed and constructed as a prototype and a component for testing developed klystrons and other power devices. The modulator is a standard line-type. The output pulse has a 15-MW peak power, 200- mu s pulse width, and 150-kW average power (600 mu s and 450 kW are the final phase objectives). Design parameters and operating characteristics are discussed. >
